Port Lavaca\/Matagorda Bay<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May 27, 2022-May 30, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our son owns a trailer and our daughter and son-in-law own a pop-up trailer and we have the motorhome so we got together and decided to plan a family trip for Memorial Weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday May 27th<\/sup> I got off work at 4 pm and headed over to pick up my daughter and her children. Her husband had to work and would not be able to leave until Saturday with their pop-up. We loaded up the last of our stuff and connected the CRV and headed off to the Port Lavaca\/Matagorda Bay KOA. We weren\u2019t able to take the Jeep this week as Frank hasn\u2019t finished installing the tow package yet, but it will be going on our next trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As usually we always seem to leave about an hour after we originally planned so it wasn\u2019t until almost 6 pm that we left Porter. Our trips all seem to have some interesting twist and this one was no exception. Midway through the trip to the campground our generator quit working so we only had the front air conditioner cooling the RV. Those not riding in the front two seats were pretty warm on our trip down as the RV got up to 84 degrees inside. At least traffic was not bad and we arrived at the campground around 8 pm. Our son had arrived earlier in the day with his son and two dogs and they enjoyed the campground activities including making s\u2019mores before we arrived. Once we got there and set up we were able to explore just a bit before it got dark. This my daughter and her children spent the night with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday May 28th<\/sup> was a busy day. The KOA was amazing with lots of fun things to do. The kids did some exploring to see all that there was to do. The views were beautiful and it was a nice relaxing more until…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took the grandkids down to the dock in the morning to see the bay. My granddaughter wanted to wade in the water but while she was wading one of her crocs floated off. She was so upset. We were trying to comfort her and tell her we would get her another pair when multiple people worked to retrieve the pink croc. One woman waded in but when the water got to deep she had to turn back. She ran to the KOA store to see if she could get to keys to use one of the canoes to row out and get it. While she was gone a boy fishing from the dock tried to hook the croc with his fishing line. His mother jumped off the dock and swam to the croc then swam it in to shore. Claire was thrilled to get her shoe back. After all that excitement it was time to head to the club house for free doughnuts and orange juice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After breakfast it was back to the motor home to get our swimming suits on. The KOA had a craft opportunity to make decorated magnets for your fridge. We went back to the clubhouse where both the little kids and the grown-up kids had fun painting their magnets. Then I took the younger two out to play on the splash pad until everyone was ready to go swimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kids enjoyed the splash pad and we all had fun in the pool until lunchtime. After lunch we headed to the clubhouse for snow cones which we all enjoyed. Shortly after that my son-in-law arrived with his pop-up and got his campsite set up. Then we had a big family BBQ with everyone contributing food. We had vegetarian options for my daughter and me and hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken for the rest of the crew. It took 2 hours to cook everything up. Then we piled 9 people into our motor home for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday May 29th<\/sup> was another busy day. In the morning I hung out a bit with my son\u2019s dogs at the dog park across from his camper. I enjoyed watching my granddogs run around and have fun. I love dogs but my allergies makes it hard for me to be inside with them so the dog park was a perfect place to spend some time with them. Then we all met at the clubhouse for doughnuts and orange juice to plan the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We decided to head to the beach for the day. We could have been better organized as no one thought to bring any snacks or anything to eat. We did think to bring an ice chest with drinks but nothing for shade. My son and son-in-law both have 4 wheel drive trucks and so we headed to Matagorda Bay where you can drive on the beach. It was about an hour away but once we got there we felt the trip was well worth it. The beach was beautiful and not overcrowded. We had to leave our CRV parked off the beach and got a ride onto the beach with our son-in-law. My husband misunderstood my son-in-law who has a four door truck. When my son-in-law told my husband he could ride in the back he meant the backseat but my husband thought he meant the bed of the truck. Frank climbed into the bed while the rest of us were waiting for him to get in the truck. We all laughed at the misunderstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After playing on the beach for about a half hour we got hungry and hot so my son and husband headed into town to get some snacks and a beach umbrella for some shade. When they got back my husband told my son-in-law \u201cmy son lets me ride inside the truck\u201d and we all had another laugh. The kids loved playing in the water but my son\u2019s dogs were not interested in the water and decided under the trucks where a great place to be. It was shady and cooler there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hung out at the beach for several hours before heading back to the campsite and getting cleaned up. My son\u2019s birthday is on the 31st<\/sup> of May so we headed into Port Lavaca to take him out for an early birthday dinner. The restaurant had some really pretty decorations which I enjoyed looking at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday, May 30th<\/sup> checkout time was 11 am so we decided to get together and make a big breakfast for all. My son cooked eggs and bacon at his trailer and we made sausage, pancakes and more bacon in our motor home. Then we are enjoyed a hearty breakfast before breaking down camp and getting ready to head out. We all agreed the trip was too short and that we would have to return again, next time with our Jeep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
