We have been off the road for over a year and this blog has turned from a Hit the Road adventure to a move to the farm adventure. So until we are able to once again Hit the Road I plan to pause the blog. I will close out the year with the last report on the adventures on our farm and our plans for what is yet to come on our property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 1st to 15th<\/sup>– Our shop progressed rapidly. Edwin\u2019s father Simon and his crew did an amazing job. It was fun to watch the progress. They even included finishing up the barn as part of the project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know that the grandkids where thrilled to have time with their Abuelita and Abuelito while they were here during the build. Daniel especially enjoyed working with his Abuelito. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were able to quickly get up the steel framing and get the outside man door on the shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then the metal skin and insulation got placed on the building. After which the roof was done. Once we got all that done we realized we had forgotten something very important and that was windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we ran and got some windows and they put them in for us. Despite some rainy weather and mud to deal with they had it completely done by the 13th<\/sup> of November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank and I were able to move our RV into the shop on the day it was finished and Frank begun his next project to start bringing electricity into the building. We were happy to move from a muddy spot to our nicely rocked shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were grateful to have our “guard dogs watching the farm. We had so many people coming down to check out what we were doing on the property we finally decided to post it. This area use to be very popular with hunters and it was the time of the year they wanted to go visit their favorite hunting spot. Unfortunately their favorite hunting spot is our home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all the stuff going on with the farm it is easy to forget we had lots of outside things going on too. On November 6th I had cataract surgery on my right eye. I had not realized how bad it had gotten but when I went to get my driver\u2019s licenses in Tennessee I could not pass the vision test. My left eye was done 6 years ago but my right eye was still doing well at that time but now I can see well out of both eyes. I was thrilled to get that done so I could run the grandchildren to library and home school programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 16th<\/sup> \u2013 Edwin and Sara joined us in the building although they only pulled their RV in part of the way until Frank could get the electrical done where their RV will go. Also we started harvesting our first crop. When we moved on the property we had found huge coils of wire back in the woods. So Edwin and Bill pulled them out and and took them to the recycling center to sell for cash. It was nice to get all that mess off the land and to make a little money doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 26th<\/sup> to 27th<\/sup> \u2013 We finally got our septic approval and it was time to get that done. They started to bring the equipment out to start working on it after Thanksgiving. Since we have moved out to the farm we have slowly been moving from living like Little House on the Prairie to modern conveniences. We got water first, then came the electricity, internet and now finally septic. For the last several months dishes had been done in an outdoor sink with a hose and cold water and then dipping the dishes in bleach to ensure they were clean. Portapotties were our bathroom and showers were taken a half hour away at a local recreation facility. But now we will be able to use the showers, sinks and bathrooms in our RVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 28th<\/sup> \u2013 We celebrated our first Thanksgiving on our farm. We ate in the shop with a propane heater blowing and tarps on the bay doors. We had chicken, brisket, ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rice, macaroni and cheese and for dessert, pie and cake. Everyone had a good time hanging out despite the cold temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather turned cold and the grandchildren were excited to see their first dusting of snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

November 29th<\/sup> to 30th<\/sup>– Hana and Blu had been staying in the campground in Franklin, Kentucky since moving to Tennessee but now that everything is almost done at the farm they were ready to move out to Lafayette. They just weren\u2019t ready to come to the farm until the septic was done so they moved to Key Park, a local campground in downtown Lafayette. Lafayette is a small town of only 6,000 people and we were all able to watch the local Christmas parade that ran through town from their campground. The kids had a great time collection candy that were thrown as various vehicles and people went by in the parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 1st<\/sup> to 5th<\/sup>– The septic system was put in and we were able to hook the shop up to the system and were good to go. So excited!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 13th<\/sup> to 16th<\/sup> \u2013 Hana and Blu moved out to the farm and got settled in with the rest of our family and we all tested out our new septic system which worked great. So until Spring we are done doing anything else on the farm. Once Spring hits it will be time to start building houses, but for now we are all cozy and together in our shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 17th<\/sup>– 22nd<\/sup> \u2013 Frank and I made a quick trip back to the Houston so he could finish up his dental work with his oral surgeon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

December 23rd<\/sup> to 26th<\/sup> \u2013 Celebrated our first Christmas at the farm. Sara and Edwin and family spent Christmas with his family and the rest of us celebrated out on the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a year full of adventures and we continue to look forward to see what life will bring us next. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
