San Antonio Trip Day 2

April 9, 2022

We slept in a bit this morning after all the stress of yesterday. The cats seemed to do well overnight but Bear has decided my pillow is the place he wants to sleep so I have to share it with him. Bill and Liam got to San Antonio about 10 am. We visited a bit then we headed off to Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio. We wanted to go there and to the Japanese Tea Garden today.

We got to the Caverns and signed up to go on the 11:30 tour of the caverns. We had about a half hour wait so we checked out the 5000 square foot outdoor maze they had. We ran around like rats trying to find all the clues. Later when we got down in the caverns and found how much hiking it was we thought we shouldn’t have wasted all that extra energy doing the maze. But it was still fun to do as a family.

The Caverns were amazing. They had been discovered by some college student in the 1960’s who then developed it so others could view the amazing views they saw. We thought the inside of the caverns would be cool but it was in the 70’s with a humidity rate of 99%.  so by the time we were done we were all soaked with sweat. We went down 180 feet underground and walked over ½ mile before heading back up 180 feet. The ceilings were low and Liam hit his head pretty hard.  After that we were very careful to warn one another when there was a low ceiling coming. We saw flowstones, chandeliers, soda, straws, stalactites, cave ribbons and more. It was so beautiful down there. We spent a couple hours underground and when we came out we were exhausted and decided that we would visit the Japanese Tea Gardens another time.

We headed back to downtown San Antonio. We really wanted to have lunch at the German Restaurant, Little Rhein Prost Haus that we had tried to get to the previous night. We drove around until we found parking and then headed down to the restaurant. We chose to eat outside on the along the Riverwalk and enjoyed the view. The food was fantastic. The kids got giant Bavarian pretzels with melted beer cheese to dip them in. Everyone enjoyed their German food. I of course had to get sauerkraut with my meal. After lunch we headed back to the RV and hung out a bit before Bill and Liam headed home.

We had lots of leftovers for dinner and then played a game of Cribbage before bed. Found out what was wrong with our car. We had left the parking brake on while we were pulling it down here from Houston and they will have to repair the parking brake.
