I know, I know, my blogs are always written on Saturday and posted on Sunday but this week is different. This week we are preparing to leave for a 15 day cruise to Hawaii for our 48th wedding anniversary. So you get a mid-week blog posted on Thursday and then you will have to wait for 15 + days to see what we have been up to at sea.
9/10 – We got to Livermore after an adventuresome day. We got up this morning and went into Truckee to explore. We walked across the Truckee River and watched the water flow.

It was a little cool so we saw this diner and decided to stop there for some hot chocolate. When we got inside we found out that Jax at the Tracks Dinner had been featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We ended up having breakfast there. Frank had sausage, biscuits and gravy and I had hash browns.

After breakfast we did a bit more exploring of the town. Then it was time to go pack up the motorhome and head out.

As we came down the mountains to Sacramento we hit smoke so thick we could see it rolling across the road. The smoke was driving my allergies crazy so I ended up putting on a mask until we got past it. There is a huge fire called the Mosquito Fire going on right now and the smoke was blowing our way. We had decided to stop and have lunch in Walnut Grove. We started driving toward the town and the road going into town was so bad it was terrifying. The road had a crack in the middle of the lane and one side was higher than the other so as we drove, our RV was Rocking and Rolling. We had to slow down to 30 mph. We got into the town which is on the Delta and there was no place to park the RV. We found another road going out of town and headed back to the freeway. We ended up stopping at a Flying J to fill up with gas and eat lunch. Traffic was real bad coming into Pleasanton but we were finally able to get to the Pleasanton Fairgrounds Campsite and got our RV parked. Then we headed over to Frank’s sister’s house to visit. We stayed quite a while and finally ordered dinner from The Ale House at 7 pm. It was nice to see family after being apart for so long.
9/11 – Woke up to ants invading the RV. They were everywhere. Apparently the campground has a real problem with ants and they had found their way inside. We ended up doing a deep cleaning of the whole RV. Frank’s sister and niece came over to see our RV and stayed and visited with us a while. Then this afternoon, thanks to zoom, we were able to see our grandson Joran give his farewell talk and be set apart as a missionary before heading to his mission in Anaheim, California for the next two years.
9/12- Frank and I went out to lunch today with our extra daughter, Karen (Sara’s best friend from high school). We enjoyed eating at Eddie’s Papa’s American Hangout. They had a nice variety of dishes and I enjoyed the artichoke soup. We had a fun time catching up and Karen said she would be willing to take us to Bart on Wednesday so we could head to San Francisco for our cruise. We went back over and visited some more with Frank’s sister. We looked through old family picture books and brought some back to the RV so we could scan the pictures.
9/13- I got up early and spent 3 hours scanning pictures into my computer from Frank’s sister’s picture books. Then today became a very full day of eating out and seeing people. This morning I went out for hot chocolate with Marilyn. She was one of the mothers at the Charter School who use to help me in the library with the Book Fair. We had a nice visit and caught up on each other’s families. Then I headed back to the RV and picked up the wash. Frank drove me to his sister’s house so I could do the laundry there. While I was working on that he went to lunch with his good friend Phil. Philip was the best man at our wedding 48 years ago. They enjoyed eating at John’s Burgers which has been around Livermore for ages. Then Frank came back and picked me up and we headed over to meet my niece Marlise. I had lunch with her at a wonderful Thai restaurant and Frank sat and visited with us. When we came back to the RV I spent the rest of the afternoon scanning the rest of the old family pictures. We took the pictures back over to Frank’s sister’s house. We visited a while before heading back to the RV. We have to pack up everything that can’t stay shut in the RV for 2 weeks and take it over to Frank’s sister’s house tomorrow. Also we have to pack our bags and get ready to head out for our cruise. I will check in again when we get back.
